Up with the birds, and the new Photoflex Octodome

I woke up at my usual 5am wake-up call this morning, drove down to the studio, and set up a quick 1 light setup with the new Octodome. Claudia was a real trooper and joined me a few hours later for portraits.

1254441411_FV-SODXSI’ve been anxiously awaiting a tiny Octodome to use with my Nikon Speedlights- as many of you know I’ve championed their XS Litedome XTC for years now. What I really like about the new Octodome: it’s small, it has a removable baffle, a removable front, and of course it leaves a nice circular catchlight in the subject’s eyes. The interior of the dome is silver, so you do have the option of a bit more contrast light if you remove the inside baffle. In the photos of Claudia I did leave the baffle installed, as well as adding a Honl Photo 1/4 CTO filter to the flash to warm up her face a bit.

I’ve used the Octodome twice since then and it already has a place in my prominent lighting bag, right next to my XS Litdome.

(Note: the photo of Claudia with actress Tracy Scoggins  was shot last year, and I used a Photoflex XS Litedome with Nikon Speedlight on that one)

Gorgeous work! The Octodome lends the portraits the look of softest sunlight, very flattering. The colors captured in the skintones are so beautiful and so are Claudia Christian and Tracy Scoggins.
